Bon Mardi Gras!

Happy Fat Tuesday! Although not everyone celebrates the Carnival season, I do. It is part of my culture and heritage to do so (as I'm originally from Mobile, Alabama, also known as "East Louisiana" or "Old New Orleans"), so I'll say it again--Bon Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras is a pre-lenten festival that prepares its revelers for the long fast of Lent. Mardi Gras is a great holiday for filmmakers, because it represents the celebration before the lamentations. Filmmaking is a joyful experience, but it is also emotionally and physically tiring, much like Lent. However, after the project is completed, your Easter comes and it is time to rejoice once more. We on the American Gulf Coast, Europe, and Latin America go through this ceremony every year. Would you agree that the filmmaking process is much like the preparation for Easter, a birth and rebirth of the spirit?

Happy Filmmaking.
